My clinical work is in a recovery focused move on unit at SNH and with the North of Tyne Community Rehabilitation Team. I have clinical expertise in the management of treatment resistance and working with this patient group using a recovery focused approach.
I have a clinical interest in working with athletes and recently, along with Alan Currie, edited an Oxford University Press handbook on Sports Psychiatry.
Prior to my current clinical post, I worked for 10 years as a community sector psychiatrist. During this time, I took on a role of working with asylum seekers. As part of this role worked closely with the local asylum seeker services and the medical foundation for the support of victims of torture
As Director of Medical Education, I work in the medical education teams across the Trust to deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education. I have been involved with the college general adult faculty in development of the college curriculum. I have in the past held a variety of educational roles including college tutor, Training Programme Director for core training and undergraduate Base Unit Lead. I have also held the role of CPD leave for the NE division of Psychiatry. I have a particular interest in developing simulation as a method of learning and using this to increase our multidisciplinary and multiagency learning.
