Dr. Carole Kaplan

I have been a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Following my retirement as Group Medical Director, Specialist Care, I returned to work as a Director of the Transformation Program NTW. I am also involved in a significant amount of National and Charitable work.

I was trained in Cape Town, South Africa, Oxford and the North East of England.

I have been a member of the Council on Tribunals and Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee from 1993 to 1999. I have been a member of the Lord Chancellor’s Advisory Board on Family Law and the Children Act Subcommittee from 1997 to 2002.Carole was a non-Executive Director of the NHS Litigation Authority and Deputy Chairman from 1999 to 2007.

My most recent ministerial appointment is to the Ministry of Justice Core Group on the Voice of the Child from November 2014.

In March 2015, I became Chair of the Relate National Policy and Research Advisory Group and in April took up an appointment to the Family Mediation Standards Board.

As an academic I have published widely in books and papers, most recently focussing on ethical and medico legal issues.

I have been involved in NHS management for many years and now lead the major Transformation Program for Community services in NTW.
