After completing a rotation in Older People’s In-patient Services during GP training, I realised that I had found my professional home in Psychiatry, and returned to the specialty as soon as I had completed my GP training. I am currently working in Psychiatry of Learning Disability as part of my long term plan to work towards Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Reegistration for Old Age Psychiatry.
I am interested in all forms of psychological intervention and in the use of art, drama and animal therapy for cognitive stimulation; much of this interest connects back to my original undergraduate degree in Theatrical Costume Design. Long term, I would like to become involved with the development of novel care environments for older people based on successful models used in the Netherlands. I am also interested in the development of improved education, for all patient groups, around the role of healthy nutrition and increased activity levels to support both mental and physical health.
