The region’s mental health and disability care provider is inviting local residents who live near one of its Sunderland hospitals to a residents’ meeting next week.
Staff from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW) would like to meet people who live near Monkwearmouth Hospital to discuss a new development on the site.
A new unit, at Mill Cottage, is expected to open in autumn 2016 and will provide specialist mental health assessment and treatment inpatient facilities for older people with mental health conditions.
The new ward at Mill Cottage will make a massive contribution to the care of older people living on Wearside and South Tyneside, but we want to give local people the opportunity to find out more about our plans and answer any questions they may have. It is important to keep residents who live near our Monkwearmouth Hospital informed about our project and would like to invite them to our meeting so they can discuss any concerns or queries they may have about its redevelopment.Denise PickersgillService Manager for Learning Disabilities and Older Person's Inpatients
Mill Cottage will support service users who have functional mental illnesses including depression and anxiety disorders who also have a physical illness or mobility issue.
The meeting will be held in the events room on Mowbray and Roker ward at the hospital on Thursday, 15 October from 5pm to 7pm.
