Trust receives an Investors in Apprenticeships Award

North East NHS Staff are celebrating after receiving an Investor in Apprenticeship Award from the North East Apprenticeship Ambassador Network.

Staff from Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW), a provider of mental health and disability services are the only NHS Trust in the North East to have received this award.  The award is given to employers who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to promoting apprenticeships and employing apprentices.

Annette Connor, Vocational Training and Development’s Manager at NTW said: “We are honoured to receive this award and be recognised for our work with our apprentice programme.  Here at NTW we have a strategic commitment to recruitment, progression opportunities as well as opportunities for promotion and ambassadorial work.”

The award was presented by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), the government agency responsible for funding education and training for children, young people and adults.  Anthony Knowles, Head of National Accounts at the North East ESFA said: “I am delighted to see NTW recognised with the Investors in Apprenticeships award.  Apprenticeships are helping employers across England to fill their skills needs, whilst giving apprentices a job, income and qualifications in their chosen field.

“To achieve this recognition NTW have demonstrated senior level commitment and whole organisation buy in to high quality apprenticeships.  The Trust delivers a wide range of opportunities in different job roles and are actively promoting the many benefits to others.  I would like to see more employers commit to apprenticeships as the Trust have; as they are undoubtedly helping to create the workforce of our region’s future.”

Annette continues: “The Academy has plans in place for the next 12 months to build on our success and we are looking forward to the range of opportunities it will provide our current employees and people in our local community looking to start their career with us.”
