Exercise Therapy Service – (Newcastle and Gateshead)

This service is available to all service users within inpatient care. The department has a fully equipped gym within the Tranwell Unit as well as providing various community groups including walking, football, badminton, cycling, circuit training, swimming, health lifestyle and weight management.

The aim of the service is to provide therapeutic exercise to improve mental illness and prevent/treat some of the physical side effects associated with antipsychotic medication.

We aim to engage service users in a structured exercise programme which will promote positive health and lifestyle changes. We support service users to continue with their exercise programme after discharge and make permanent lifestyle changes.
